The new beauty buzz among bloggers & YouTube gurus is Birchbox. Birchbox is a program that delivers deluxe beauty samples once a month directly to your front door for just $10! July was my first month receiving the samples and I had mixed reactions. At first glance, I liked the unveiling and presentation of birchbox. There was a note explaining the contents and acknowledging Cynthia Rowley as this month’s ambassador. Inside my box I found a variety of hair, beauty, & body goodies…
Take a peek inside!
1. philosophy purity made simple: one-step facial cleanser
I would like to say that I Iiked this product but my skin didn’t. I’m a creature of skincare habit so introducing a new cleanser was a crapshoot. The morning after I used philosophy I had broken out with a triangle of three pesky pimples. Needless to say I probably won’t be using this again, but I’ll keep the sample handy in case I get into a pinch.
2. Korres Showergel: Guava
I was even less enthused about this showergel. Again, it was average at best. Not the best and not the worst. I’m big on scents and the Guava did nothing for me. But again, it wasn’t your run of the mill cheap showergel. It did lather up great, and the directions boast that the natural ingredients can keep skin soft & hydrated for hours. Umm, okay I guess.
3. Redken Shine Flash 02 Glistening Mist
Redken is a big name in the salon product industry and I was excited to get a sample of this hair mist. My only gripe was there were no instructions on the bottle. There was no indication if it needed to be applied on wet, dry, or already styled hair. I followed my normal routine and sprayed the mist after I had shampooed, blow dried, and flat ironed my hair. The smell wasn’t the greatest, but I do believe it added some additional shine to my down to there locks. However, it seemed a little more stiff than what I’m used to. I’ll probably use this in the future if my hair is pulled up rather than just worn down.
4. Zoya Touch Collection Nail polish: Pandora
Not being a fan of nail polish I was a bit skeptical. But I decided that on my next stop to the nail salon for a mani/pedi I’d make this the color of choice for my pedicure. Apparently it’s made without formaldehyde and other chemicals that can be harmful for your nails. The birchbox site also claims that Zoya polishes last 50% longer than other brands, saying that after one full week, there will be no chipping. I’ll have to report back to see if these claims hold true.
5 Kind: Fruit & Nut Bars: Almond & Apricot
As an added surprise my birchbox included a gluten-free healthy snack, made by Kind Snacks. I was surprised at how good this tasted. I wouldn’t pig out on these on a daily basis but it was a nice treat to have. Check out the Kind Snacks website for a variety of other snacks and flavors.
Overall I can say my first birchbox experience was pleasant. I’m looking forward to see what the August box has to offer. If you’d like to get in on the fun, head over to www.birchbox.com and sign up now!
